About Us
Our Inspiration
The work of The FARM is inspired by a love of music and a sincere belief in its power to benefit human beings individually and society as a whole. We know of no greater tool for community-building, nor a more joyful one, and we celebrate the connections that can only be made through music.
What we mean by
Roots Music

Roots Music is defined differently by different people in different contexts. At The FARM, roots music is generally made on acoustic instruments, grows out of and continues a community or tradition, and (since we are taking a geographical focus) plays a unique role in the cultural history of the United States region of North America. Any list of American roots genres could cover a wide range and still be incomplete. For example: americana, Appalachian, bluegrass, blues, Cajun, Celtic, conjunto, country, folk, gospel / sacred music, Hawaiian roots, Indigenous traditional, jazz, Louisiana Creole, old-time, roots rock, (other) traditional music, zydeco...
What kind of organization is Future of American Roots Music?
Future of American Roots Music is a 501(c)(3) organization that is part database, part scholarship fund, part artist support network, part professional association, part music program, and part consultancy. Founded in the spring of 2026, The FARM is actively taking shape in conversation with an invested community of partners.
